Hello all, I have a belt trailer and have been asked to give my trucking rates for potato harvest. I have never hauled potatoes, so I was wondering if anybody here on this forum could give me advice on how to charge, i.e by the ton, by the hour, by the mile. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I used a Wilson ultralight 102x78x43 hopper trailer for potatoes. But you need to watch how you load them. Don't just put the belt over the center of the hopper, you'll get severe damage. Start at the tip of the slide until it starts to build up.

Only do this by the hour if you are dedicating your truck to them for continuous use.

If this is out of the field harvest work, I ONLY WORK ON HOURLY. No matter the commodity if you are dedicating you truck to a single farm operation for harvest you can lose your a** on load pay. Say the picker goes down for 5 hours waiting on parts, you made no money that day. I have seen some guys do load pay with a daily guarantees, so say $6/Ton with a $800/day minimum, as an example. |

Unfortunately sometimes you wait for ever to get loaded also have to take that into consideration. Hard to get one load a day out on f there |
