It would also be really helpful if they would post the rate and the commodity being loaded. That way if the rate and commodity works for that paticular person or truck, they can call on it. Instead of wasting their valuable time calling to find out it doesn't work. |

At the very least, the commodity and any equipment required.

I also think that if i call you and the rate you tell me over the phone is nonnegotiable than post the rate. If it can be negotiated then it should be open.

Yeah, that is a peeve of mine. The listing shows locations that don't match what they say when I call. Sometimes there is as much as 100 miles different. Now my 150 radius turns into 250 miles and I've just had my time wasted. |

Yup!! Always ask if they're sure about location and don't forget to tell them up front the distance you're going to go.

I'm really surprised rates aren't required. In the name of transparency and out of respect for carrier's time. Most other load boards (other industries) rates are either required or are almost universally posted if they expect any carriers to call them. |

so how about you give the rate? works both ways........you know darn well why we dont....we dont know who you are, where you been, where you are going......i mean seriously, send me your crystal ball so i can to all of that. sorry but this whining about not knowing your own rates to carry is getting really old. |

That would be a great idea. Is there a form for this in the available trucks column? I didn't see one. As I said, in almost all other commodities/load boards, it is standard for rates to be posted. I know from experience as a carrier and a broker. It saves time for the people out doing the actual job of driving/loading/unloading rather than playing phone tag with a broker at a desk. Not to mention, you should stand behind your rate rather than relying on finding the most desperate or least experienced owner operator in order to make a buck. Again, this isn't a new concept. |

totally missing the point. if you, as a carrier want a load and DO NOT know what your rate would be given the fact you know the commodity and correct info, then should you really even be calling on that load? as far as your insult about standing by your rate blah, blah, blah i would suggest that if you are in the frame of mind you would be the one bending someone over on costs. thats the issue with this forum, all hat and no cattle, keep whining, you will get so much more quality work instead of getting your own customers. |

If you had 30 carriers, you would have 30 different numbers! Not everyone's insurance costs are the same, license fees, etc. I can tell you that break even today for us is around $1.80/mile on a 3000 mile week. With that said, our drivers and O/O are not out here to break even! A company driver makes .60-.70/mile on average so if an O/O can not make more than that amount on top of the break even, why even own a truck and be out here. Y'all can sit back and whine and moan about rates, brokers, other carriers but at the end of the day, you make the decisions for your own company that are best for your own company! If you aren't making enough money, maybe it is time to look for something else to do, a different company to pull for or a different way to maximize the earning potential of your company. I have been vocal during the covid hayday, when everyone was saying "rates should be $6/mile" and "These rates are here to stay". What a load of hooey! Everyone who has been in this industry for a while knows that you can not count on ANYTHING in this industry! The only thing that will save companies is their loyalty to their customers, willingness to be flexible and a good work ethic! Go out and find your customers directly and then for the areas that you don't have direct customers, align yourself with a REPUTABLE broker! When I say REPUTABLE I mean someone who has stood the test of time and has carved out their niche in the industry! Stay honest and true to your word and you should stay profitable! Thanks for letting me ramble! Keith, ET Trucking INC. |
