Finding Loads in a Slow Market

A lot of times, when I ask members who cancel or don’t renew whether they utilized our shipper database or posted their truck availability, many reply that they didn’t or didn’t even know about it. That’s on us, and I sincerely apologize. We haven’t done enough to fully educate our users on how to maximize the benefits of BulkLoads. Let’s dive into some key strategies that carriers, brokers, and shippers can use to get the most out of BulkLoads—secrets that many might not know.

  • Timing Matters:

    • Consider the example of buying a pickup truck. During the pandemic, truck prices soared due to increased demand and limited supply. I found myself in a similar situation—I had an older Ford truck that was suddenly worth more than I paid for it. Thinking I could capitalize, I sold it and looked for a newer one. But newer trucks were hard to find, and dealers weren’t willing to negotiate. I ended up buying a new truck that wasn’t much better than my old one, simply because I felt pressured by the market. In hindsight, it wasn’t the best time to buy.
    • This example illustrates how timing is crucial, not just in buying trucks but in using BulkLoads as well. When truck capacity is high and loads are limited, you might not see as many loads posted. However, this doesn’t mean opportunities aren’t out there—it just requires a different approach and a deeper understanding of the market dynamics.
  • Use the Shipper Tab to Your Advantage:

    • The Shipper Tab is a powerful tool, providing a list of current and past loads sorted by state and equipment. This feature allows you to connect with shippers even if they don’t currently have loads posted.
    • Many shippers may not post loads during slow times because they’re covered by dedicated companies. The Shipper Tab helps you reach out and establish connections with these companies regardless, ensuring that you’re still able to find opportunities even when the market seems slow.
  • Post Your Truck Availability:

    • Posting your truck’s availability is crucial. Use the "Add Truck" tab to easily list your truck for up to 7 days.
    • Some carriers hesitate, fearing that shippers might offer lower rates. However, by posting your availability, you attract shippers and brokers who might have loads that aren’t publicly posted for various reasons, including confidentiality or competitive concerns. This gives you the upper hand by letting potential clients know where you are and what you can haul.
  • Market Yourself Effectively:

    • As a marketer by trade, I understand the importance of communication and technology in moving loads. BulkLoads incorporates these principles to make finding freight easier and more efficient.
    • By leveraging the tools and strategies available on BulkLoads, you can navigate the ups and downs of the market more effectively, connecting with the right people and ensuring that you get the most out of your membership.

In conclusion, the key to success with BulkLoads lies in understanding how to use the platform fully. Whether it’s timing your actions, connecting with shippers, or posting your truck’s availability, there’s more to BulkLoads than meets the eye. Don’t miss out on the opportunities that are just a few clicks away.

God Bless,

For you carriers out there....when I have a load that I need help on, I do look at posted trucks. I know not everyone wants to show all their cards and I get it, I don't either.

However, when I am struggling to cover a load, most times I can find a posted truck/carrier that I recognize or have worked with before, and give them a call. Just my 2 cents. Thanks
